Facts and figures

There are approximately a thousand separately titled poetic miscellanies published in the eighteenth century: many of those titles run into multiple editions, and the total number of volumes providing the basis for this index will be substantially higher.

The average number of poems within a miscellany is 55.

It takes us, on average, an hour to attribute, classify and enter 10 poems, and a day to complete a whole miscellany.

By the end of the project, there will be more than 50,000 separate poems in the Index; details of several thousand poets, composers, printers, publishers and patrons; and over 1500 miscellany volumes.

It will have taken more than 9,000 hours of data-entry to get to this point.
